Only the old timers out there will get this, but it needs to be said: Pow pow, Parn!
Earlier today, Funimation published a new trailer for their upcoming Record of Lodoss War Blu-Ray release. The 100-second teaser features the show’s original (and comically bad) Central Park Media dub prominently throughout.
Before you ask, I’m not going to explain why Parn sounds like Dudley Do-Right. He just does, okay?
Funimation will release the original Record of Lodoss War OVA, as well as sequel TV series Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight in a single boxed set on July 18.
Record of Lodoss War is based on a series of fantasy novels by Ryo Mizuno (Starship Operators, Record of Grancrest War). The 13-episode OVA ran from June 1990 through November 1991. The series was helmed by Chief Director Akinori Nagaoka (Soreike! Anpanman, Dr. Slump) at Madhouse, with Nobuteru Yuki (The Vision of Escaflowne, Orange) and original character designer Yutaka Izubuchi (Gravity Rush: The Animation – Overture, Delpower X Bakuhatsu Miracle Genki!) cooperating on the show’s character designs. Mami Watanabe (Phantom Quest Corp., Miracle Girls) was in charge of series composition.
Central Park Media originally released Record of Lodoss War in North America. They described the title as:
Lodoss, The Accursed Island! Born in battle, baptizzed in fire, its kingdoms have been ravaged by war for thousands of years. Now, an evil stirs, an ancient goddess of destruction awakened by an evil wizard. A party of six is forged to defeat this threat, or die in the attempt. Join Parn, the young fighter, as he leads his warriors into the heart of a land where dragons rule and evil holds sway over the earth. Six swords are now drawn against this darkness. The war for Lodoss has begun!
A trailer for the series is available below:
Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Night is a sequel to the Lodoss OVAs, which originally aired in the Spring 1998 broadcast season. Hitoyuki Matsui (Sakura Taisen: Sumire, Ninja Nonsense) served as Series Director at AIC, with Nobuhiro Takamoto (Beelzebub, Tenchi in Tokyo) and Yoshihiro Takamoto sharing the title of director. The team of Azumano Takashi and Toshiko Sasaki (Scramble Wars, Saint Beast: Kouin Jojishi Tenshi Tan) produced character designs for the project. The team of Katsumi Hasegawa (The Slayers, Maze: The Mega-Burst Space), Masashi Kubota (Super GALS!, Hidamari Sketch), and Yasutomo Yamada (Vampire Princess Miyu, The Slayers) collaborated on the show’s scripts.
Central Park Media originally released Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight in North America. They described the title as:
Five years past, a band of six adventurers defeated the conquering armies of Marmo, the dark island, and saved the accused island, LODOSS. Since that day, the survivors have been honored as heroes, and their deeds have become legends. But the darkness never perished… Now, a mad wizard threatens to raise an ancient evil — the goddess of destruction. Old heroes must heed the call to defend their homeland and new heroes are forged as the battle for LODOSS begins anew.
